Carnitine is an amino acid whose function is to transport fatty acids into the mitochondria - the cellular organelle responsible for supplying the energy necessary for cellular activity. HOW IT WORKS.

Our body is responsible for synthesising fats in order to obtain energy from them. This fat is converted into energy in the cellular mitochondria, where short- and medium-chain fatty acids - acetic acid, propionic acid, valeric acid, butyric acid, etc. - cross the inner mitochondrial membrane. However, the long-chain fatty acids - palmitic acid, stearic acid and oleic acid - need carnitine for to be able to pass through this membrane into the cell. This process causes a loss of fatty matter in the body. It therefore allows its proper utilisation by the cells in energy metabolism.
